No Team Pokerstars for me this year
Even though I’d been thinking of doing a blog for a while, the main catalyst for me starting up when I did was the Team Pokerstars Online applications. Pokerstars have a team of sponsored pros that make up their Team Online. The difference between Team Online and the main Pokerstars Team is that whereas the main team is made up of the high-profile superstars of the game, Team Online is made up from regular professional players from a wide range of stakes and games. There are members of Team Online from the microstakes right up to high stakes, at hold’em, omaha and all the other poker variants that Stars spreads.
So when I got an email saying that applications had opened for this years selection process, I knew I had to apply. There are several players just like me that are currently on the team, so there is no reason that I could not be selected. I have a reasonably high-profile in the games I play and on the forums, and have been around for a good few years now. The only stipulation that I didn’t match up with was having a current blog, so I quickly got that set up. Once the blog was established, I filled in the application and waited. Unfortunately I got the email yesterday that I hadn’t been chosen. It was no great surprise as I knew they were going to be flooded with applications from suitable candidates. Apparently they had around 1,200 applicants which is more than I expected, although I’d guess that at least half of those wouldn’t have been seriously considered because for a start there are certainly not 1,200 current blogs made by Stars players. I’d like to think that I would be in the top 20% or so of applicants, but then that is still over 200 other players that I would be competing with, so even if that were true, my chances would have been pretty slim.
Still, I’m not put off. I’m going to keep the blog going and will definitely apply again next year. I’ve had over 700 unique visitors since I started blogging just over a month ago, so it looks like people are interested in what I have to say, and I’m having fun doing it. It does get harder to update regularly with original content, but I think I’ve also been slacking off on it a bit. I’ve been lacking on the poker updates recently so I’m going to make an effort to put more of that in here. If you’ve any suggestions about the kind of things you’d like me to blog about in the future, just let me know.
